Week two results for the festive R.I.D.E. program

RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2019 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign commenced on November 23 and will continue until January 2, 2020. 

During the second week of the campaign from November 30 to December 6, 2019 officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP conducted 26 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area.  No impaired driving or over 80mg charges were reported as a result of the RIDE campaign.

On December 1 at approximately 3:00 a.m., police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 600 block of Cecelia Street in the City of Pembroke. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was utilized and the driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of this investigation 19-year-old Aidan Young of Pembroke has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg

The accused had their license suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on December 17 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
