WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — The Mayor of Pembroke, Mike Lemay, sent a letter to Mayor Moore regarding a new aquatic fitness and community centre in Pembroke.

In the letter, Mr. Lemay details how Pembroke is applying for an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) Grant in the Community, Culture and Recreation Stream for a new pool facility.

He also asks for a letter of support from the Township, citing 78 per cent of respondents in the Pembroke and surrounding area who were surveyed, are in full support. The venture would be a collaboration with the YMCA to develop a new facility.

Council has decided to support this venture, as many students in Whitewater Region travel to use pool facilities. The area schools also use them for school safety days, where students learn how to call 9-1-1, boat safety and what to do if they fall through the ice.
