RENFREW COUNTY (Renfrew) — The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) took part in the Fall Seatbelt Campaign (October 2 to October 11) and Operation Impact (October 11 to October 14).

The fall seatbelt campaign was directed patrol towards seatbelt infractions. During the campaign Renfrew OPP officers laid 30 seatbelt charges.

Operation Impact was directed patrols with special attention towards the “Big 4”, which are the four main causal factors involved in motor vehicle collision deaths on OPP patrolled roadways. The “Big 4” are distracted driving, aggressive driving (speeding, stunt driving), impaired driving and lack of occupant restraint (seatbelt use).

During Operation Impact Renfrew OPP officers laid several charges including, 36 speeding charges, three stunt driving charges, four seatbelt charges, one distracted driving charge, 11 other moving violations and two impaired driving charges.

The OPP would like to remind the public that even though these campaigns have concluded, the OPP is committed to road safety and officers will continue to patrol our roadways for traffic violations.
