Accidental 911 Calls

The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP continue to respond to unnecessary or accidental 9-1-1 calls throughout the area. During the past week officer responded to 28, 9-1-1 calls that were accidental or unnecessary.

This takes a toll on police resources, as accidental calls or abuse of 9-1-1 ties up emergency lines, communicators and officers which could result in the slower response to a real emergency, risking the safety of people who may need urgent help.

OPP would like to remind residents that 9-1-1 should only be used to report a life-threatening emergency or a crime in progress.

  • • For non-emergencies, call 1-888-310-1122.
  • • For administrative or general inquires during business hours call, 613-432-3211.
  • • For weather conditions, call Environment Canada.
  • • For road conditions and closures, call 5-1-1.
