Fairfields Seniors Residence Evacuated

EGANVILLE – At approximately 10:30 a.m. on November 10th, all 37 residents along with staff of the Fairfields Senior Living Residence were evacuated by County of Renfrew Paramedics after high levels of Carbon Monoxide were detected in the building.

Paramedic Service Staff were on the scene quickly and all 37 residents and staff were safely evacuated to the nearby Royal Canadian Legion, where the Bonnechere Valley Community Emergency Management Coordinator and County of Renfrew Paramedic Service Staff had set up a reception and care centre to provide support for the displaced residents. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Debbie Robinson, County of Renfrew Warden had this statement, “Our thoughts are with those residents and family members affected by this incident at Fairfields. I wish to express my thanks to the residents, and their families for their patience. I also wish to thank the staff of Fairfields, Bonnechere Valley Fire Department, Bonnechere Valley Community Emergency Management Coordinator and County Paramedic Service Staff for their swift action. Both Bonnechere Valley and the County of Renfrew followed pre-established emergency plans to ensure that all residents received care, shelter and are provided with timely up-to-date information. ”

The residents returned home and no injuries occurred.
