COBDEN – The Cobden Civitan Club cut the ribbon on a band shell they and the Township of Whitewater Region constructed in the Veteran’s Society Park and Campground in Cobden, for community use, on Monday, July 20.

The Civitan and the Township of Whitewater Region contributed to the construction, which cost $18,000 according to Civitan Chair Ted Barron.

“It was about $10,000 from Whitewater Region, and it cost about $8000 after that.” Ted Barron said, at the shell.

Barron said that the shell has been “three years in the making”, with funding finally materializing last year and work completed earlier in the summer.

The bandstand was featured in a previous story in this paper, as part of the Cobden Public School’s graduation photos.

Music in the Park was held using the band shell on July 8, with social distancing, and more events planned in the future.

Some events include Rick Lebon at 7pm on Friday, July 24th, and Kerry Schaur at 5pm on Saturday, July 25th

The park’s community centre remains closed.
