A poem for David

A note from the poet: I have written poems most of my life and Megan has been kind enough to publish some for me. I lost my older brother David St. Michael on December 18th 2019 at the age of 61 from cancer. I wrote this poem the following day, I hope it helps others who lost a loved one this year.

So this is what Christmas is like,
When a part of your heart is broken.
Because we are missing someone,
David earned his heavenly tokens.

Wings were bestowed upon him,
And he flew with dignity high above.
With his family by his side,
Guiding him with their love.

He wouldn’t want us to grieve,
On this blessed holiday.
For he is with the Birthday boy,
Who once laid in a manger on hay.

I am sure the star upon our trees,
Will glow a wee bit brighter too.
David will be here in spirit and love,
And help to guide us through.
