PEMBROKE — Founded in 2006, the annual Black Bears Hockey Tournament attracts CNL Chalk River employees and retirees to take to the ice in support of individuals and families in need, while also helping local charities that serve families throughout Renfrew County.
Through entry fees, prize tables, raffles, and charity dinners, this year’s Black Bears Tournament raised over $47,000 with $15,955 donated to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation to support the regional orthopaedic program.
“This hockey tournament started as a way to bring our CNL family together in support of our neighbours in need,” said Daniel Venne of the organizing committee. “It’s very rewarding to see how far it has come to benefit so many families in our community-at-large.”
Receiving the donation was Lisa Edmonds, Vice-Chair of the PRH Foundation Board.
“The regional orthopaedic program is a wonderful addition to the services currently offered at PRH and the generous support from the Black Bears Hockey club will help with the staggering cost of the equipment,” she said.
To date, the annual Black Bears Club has invested over $75,000 towards advancing local health care – including helping to bring home the MRI in 2015.
“This is an incredible accomplishment and as our hospital expands services, we as local families, are the lucky benefactors of their generosity,” Ms. Edmonds said.
